The School of Health Innovation was established in 2016 by Growth House director Hilde Nebb in collaboration with the business cluster Nansen Neuroscience Network. Nebb who was then dean for research at the Faculty of Medicine that has run the school until now.
Nordic collaboration
Today, the School of Health Innovation is run in a collaboration between the University of Oslo (UiO), NTNU in Trondheim, Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm and the University of Copenhagen (KU) with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The school provides courses for health and life sciences researchers (PhD students, postdocs, researchers, physicians, and scientific staff) at all Nordic universities in the axis with the university hospitals.
‘The ambition is to continue to develop the fruitful Nordic collaboration, to provide researchers who have an innovative idea, with the knowledge and tools to develop it. This coincides well with the vision of the Growth House, where the great potential for innovations in research will be strengthened through knowledge and collaboration between academia and industry for the benefit of society. It is therefore natural that the Faculty of Medicine now leaves it to the Growth House to run the school,’ says Nebb.
Nebb will continue to be scientific responsible from UiO's side, while Bjarte Reve will continue as project manager from UiO's side.

The School of Health Innovation has developed three courses.

About the Life Science Growth House
- innovation unit for life sciences, health and technology at the University of Oslo (UiO), that opened in February 2022
- run in collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and located in Oslo Science Park
- will contribute to a stronger innovation culture at UiO to put more knowledge from research to use
- helps researchers and students to mature early-stage ideas by providing tailored counselling, seed funding, meeting places, mentor programme, student internship and more
- is an open door for students at UiO; researchers at UiO, Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital; managers and administrative staff who support innovative researchers; and existing and new external partners
- collaborates closely with departments at UiO and university hospitals, and with the technology transfer office, business clusters, incubators and industry in the innovation ecosystem
