Required specialization
Bachelor's degree
You must have a bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree.
Required specialization and minimum grade requirement
You must have a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in the required specialization. A Norwegian C is described as a good grade, generally comparable to an American B and a Second Class Upper in the British system. We do not use conversion tables for foreign grades. All foreign education is individually evaluated during the admission process.
Please note that eligible applicants who fulfill the minimum grade requirement will compete for a study place. Please see the section on ranking for more information on selection criteria.
Required specialization:
- An in-depth study of at least 80 credit points (ECTS) in Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Informatics, including Music, Media Studies, Linguistics, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Social Economics, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Multidisciplinary Studies, or similar. A degree in Business Studies, Business English or Tourism will not qualify.
- In addition the applicant will need to document knowledge and experience in both music and technology, such as:

Music: performance, composition, production, installation, theory, cognition, acoustics, sound design, and/or signal processing

Technology: musical programming (Max, Puredata, CSound, or similar), general programming (Matlab, Python, Java, C++, or similar), human-computer interaction, and/or electronics.

A digital portfolio: The digital portfolio will be the basis of the assessment of your music technological competence. When you apply, you should therefore provide the link to a website with relevant material documenting your knowledge and skills relevant to the programme. The portfolio should include former projects, and could be of both academic and artistic nature. If you include work that is produced together with others, it is important to clearly describe your contribution. There is no limit to the size of the portfolio, but the quality of the material is more important than the number of projects and files included. We have gathered some tips for preparing your portfolio.

Letter of motivation: The letter of motivation is where you elaborate on your interest in the programme, with reference to previous experiences from work and/or studies. The letter should be no more than two pages.
Ranking of applicants
Selection is based on your academic performance in the required subjects for this programme.
Secondly, applicants will be ranked on the basis of their digital portfolio and motivation letter. A selection of the qualified applicants will be invited to an online interview. A test may be included in the interview, in which case the applicant will be informed beforehand.
