H?sten 2024 leser vi romerske historieskrivere i form av utdrag fra Livius’ romerske historie (Ab urbe condita) og Caesars Borgerkrigen (Bellum Civile). I lesningen tar vi opp sp?rsm?l om verkenes retoriske og narratologiske form, samspillet mellom litter?r og grammatisk form, og hvordan en lesning som tidsmessig plasserer tekstene i en republikansk og augustéisk kontekst samtidig p?virker v?r oppfatning av dem som historisk kildemateriale. Vi leser med st?tte i oversettelser, spr?klig kommentarlitteratur og tematisk orientert sekund?rlitteratur.
English:
In the autumn of 2024 we read Roman historians in the form of excepts from Livy’s History of Rome (Ab urbe condita) and Caesar’s The Civil War (Bellum Civile). The main questions we will address in our reading are the works’ rhetorical and narratological form, the interaction of literary form with grammar, and how reading in a Republican and Augustan temporal context impacts our perception of the works as historical sources. We read aided by translations, commentaries with a linguistic focus and secondary literature addressing specific topics.
