Course content
This course concentrates on the development of the Turkic languages and the history of the Turkic peoples, concentrating on their pre-islamic history in East and Central Asia and the diffusion of the Turkic tribes throughout Eurasia. Samples of different Turkic languages will be read, however with a constant comparative reference to Turkish of Turkey.
Learning outcome
The aim of the study is that the students should get an idea about what Turcological studies may comprise besides the strong focus on the Republic of Turkey which is prevalent at our university, and to give them an impression of the great variety that exists within the the Turkic language family.
