Weekly plans and update for week 47

Dear all,

here's as promised the link to John Aiken's lecture on XGBoots. I hope you may find it interesting, and again thanks to all of you who presented possible data sets last Friday, cool.

John's slides are at https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1A5tMrZSa7XBwSZMEFDkkfmEBlDnM1y_H_DEhu5eWJDU/edit#slide=id.p

Else, this coming Thursday we will finalize our material on Support Vector Machines, both for classification and regression, with the final equations and code examples.

Hastie et al's chapters 4.5 and 12.1-12.4 cover much of what we plan to discuss and have discussed. The slides at https://compphysics.github.io/MachineLearning/doc/pub/svm/html/svm-bs.html give you an input to the discussions during Thursday's lecture. On Friday we will wrap up our Support Vector Machine part and we will end the semester with hints on how to use Bayesian statistics with neural networks.

Thursday November the 28th will be our last lecture this semester (sadly).  No lecture on Friday the 29th of November.  Else, our last lab sessions will be this first coming Tuesday and finally on Tuesday November the 26th.

Also, we apologize so much not having provided you with proper feedback in due time on project 1, we will try to do our best for project 2 in due time before the deadline on project 3.

Best wishes,

the fys-stk-gang, Hanna, Lucas, Morten, Stian and ?yvind.
