We have finished grading the exam papers. The results will appear in student-web in a few days.

On the final exam you may bring:
Approved calculator, D.J. Griffiths: “Introduction to Quantum Mechanics”, the printed notes: “Time evolution of states in quantum mechanics”, “Symmetry and degeneracy” and “WKB connection formulae”, one handwritten A4-sheet(2 pages) with your own notes, and K. Rottmann: “Matematisk formelsamling”.
For your own benefit you should bring these materials.
We have posted an optional
Problem set 12 , which is not to be handed in.
The purpose is to let you get some training in using the results of time-dependent perturbation theory applied to atoms.
The solution will be posted on Friday 21.
Problem set 11. This is the last problem set which is to be handed in. (We have to produce the list of who is elligible for the final exam on Monday Nov. 17.)
The midterm exam scores are now available.
The maximum possible score on any subproblem is 6 points. (max total: 42 points)
Due to the Nobel prize telecast, the lecture on Tuesday Oct 7 is from 9:15 to 11:00
Language: Although the problem text is in English, you may answer the exam in either Norwegian Bokm?l, Norwegian Nynorsk or English.
Problem 1:
-"measurement of the spin-x component" means "measurement of the x-component of the spin-1/2 degree of freedom".
-An ideal measurement is a measurement which only minimally disturbs the system. This does not mean that the spin state is not altered. In this problem it simply is a qualifier which lets you use postulate 6 presented in the lectures or what Griffiths calls the "Generalized statistical interpretation".
The exercise session on Thursday Sept. 18 will be from 12:00 to 13:15.
The lecture on Tuesday (Sept. 16) will be held in F?157
Enough protests were received to keep the dates for the midterm exam unchanged. I.e. the midterm exam will be a take-home exam in the period Sept.26-Oct.3.
Some students have requested to change the dates of the midterm exam. I propose to postpone it one week. ie. holding it in the period Oct. 3.-10. Any weighty protests to this proposed change must be emailed me within Aug. 27. Update Aug. 27: Enough protests were received, so the midterm exam will be held as originally announced: Sept.26-Oct.3
