Hi all --

The exam is tomorrow from 10:00-13:30. It's written, and I'll mail it to you just before 10:00. It's open book and you can take it at home or at MetOs (or wherever you like). But just remember that you need to work alone (the exams will be checked for plagiarism). At 11:00 you can log in to Zoom if you have any questions. You may have to wait in a "waiting room" if someone else is already on. The best is to read through the exam and write down any questions, then ask at 11:00. I've scheduled a half hour Zoom for this, but I can go longer if there are lots of questions. The link is below. If you have any questions before then, just send me an email.

Joseph Henry Lacasce is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Nikki Vercauteren (new prof at MetOs) is giving a talk tomorrow at 10am online (let me know if you'd like the link). So let's start the review session at 11:15 instead.

If you're looking for old exams to practice on, you can find some under the previous versions of the course, gef3450 and gef4500.

Hi all -- we'll meet tomorrow from 9:15-12:00. We will have a regular lecture this time, rather than a discussion (the Eady model is complicated). It will be on Zoom, and I'll send the link by email.

Publisert 20. nov. 2020 11:56

I've heard that some of you have an exam in geo4300 during class next Monday. So could we move it to Tuesday, from 9:15-12? Rather than doing a discussion, I'll just give a straight lecture on the Eady model.

Hi All -- P?l Erik will do the group session tomorrow, from 14:15-16:00. He'll help you with oblig 5. That was supposed to be due on Monday, but some have requested if we could delay this -- so why don't you hand that in on Thursday 26/11 instead. We also need to set a date for the final. Stay tuned about that...

OK, some are interested in having a group session. So let's meet at kl 14 sharp in the lecture room. I may have to go at kl 15, but I can answer questions for an hour anyway..!

Herman is sick (hopefully just a cold), so he has to cancel the group session tomorrow. There's a JOS seminar at kl 14, but if enough of you want to meet, let me know and I can come from 14-15 (I have another meeting at 15).

Hello! I know you're all looking forward to the next oblig. For that, let's do the problems in chapter 4. It will be due 2/11, so you'll have a bit more time for this.

Publisert 5. okt. 2020 09:38

P?l Erik will be running the Monday sessions for a few weeks ahead from now. So email him (p.e.isachsen@geo.uio.no) if there are questions/messages about those sessions, e.g. if you'll need to follow by Zoom.

The obligs should still be sent in to Marta and/or Herman.

Hello! Let's do the problems at the end of Chapter 3. You can hand them in on 14 October

Hi,

due to a planned temporary power outage in the MetOs-part of Kristine Bonnevies hus in week 42 (12-16 October), the lectures and practicals in GEO4900 have been swopped to different other lecture rooms in the Geology building and the Kristine Bonnevies hus.

The time schedule has been updated.

Yours sincerely,
Student administration
Department of Geosciences

I've got to go to a meeting at noon on Monday 28/9. So we'll start the discussion at 10:00 (and be done at 12:00).

Hi! You can do the problems at the end of Chapter 2 for the second oblig, which will be due on 28/9. As usual, you can send them to Marta, Herman or me.

Here's the tentative reading plan for the whole semester, with the days that we're discussing the material.

Day                                        Sections

31/8                                         1.1-1.5

7/9                                           2.1-2.4

14/9   &nbsp...

Let's meet at 11:15 instead of 12:15. It was a little rushed last time, with only 2 hours. I know Michael can't be there for the first hour, but he can just come when he's free. We will run a Zoom connection too. Let me know if you want to join remotely. And I promise that we'll take a short lunch break...

We met today and went through the discussion exercises for week 30. We finished Chapter 1, so you can do the 6 problems at the end of the chapter. These will be due two weeks from today (14/9). If you get started on them right away, you can ask questions at the group session, kl 14:15-16:00 on Thursday (3/9). You can either hand in the exercises to me or send them directly to Marta (marta.trodahl@geo.uio.no) or Herman (herman.fuglestvedt@geo.uio.no).

For next week, read sections 2.1-2.4, not including Thermal Wind. We'll discuss those sections next Monday (7/9). We'll be setting up a Zoom connection next week, so let me know if you will be following from home. If so, your email address to josepl@geo.uio.no.

This semester, we're going to switch the course a bit. You'll read the compendium, and then you'll get some exercises to do in class. We'll meet once a week, on Mondays from 12:15-14:00. For next Monday, read all of chapter 1. Then we'll have some in class exercises to discuss (see the "Discussions" link on the right here).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello! We'll meet on Monday at 12:15 here in Kristin Bonnevies Hus for the first class. We haven't decided what to do yet, whether to have physical teaching or something else, but we will discuss that on Monday. See you then.
