Programme structure

The Master of Philosophy in Education programme, specialisation Communication, Design, and Learning is an interdisciplinary, 2-year full-time programme focusing on ICT and learning in general. It accommodates both social media and pedagogy, applied in three thematic areas: 1) school and education, 2) workplace learning, and 3) the cultural sector. Combining work placement and theory will provide you with an education in both job-related and research-based areas.

The programme is composed of several modules as shown in the table below. Although the structure is divided into separate entities, as a student you should embrace the programme as a whole, meaning take advantage of the knowledge you acquire in one course and apply it to another.

A short description of the programme

The master's programme takes two years to complete. The first semester you will follow courses along with students from a related master's specialisation called "Knowledge, Education, and Learning." The second semester you will, in addition to taking part in PED4510 and PED4520, be engaged in a 5-week work placement (practicum) relevant to the programme, and again during the third semester alongside participating in PED4540 and PED4550. Work placement is mandatory and cannot be combined with a full-time job. 

At the end of the third semester you will need to submit a project description for your thesis, as well as apply for an academic supervisor. It is recommended that you start preparing early for your thesis work. Already in the first semester you may begin preperation by attending research seminars for master students, meetings which discuss aspects surrounding a thesis etc. The Research seminars for master's students is open for all students who have qualified for a master's degree programme. It is a popular meeting place for both students and researchers, and is based on the institute's research initiatives. The seminars provide students with an arena in which they can discuss and work in order to further develop projects for their thesis. It is also possible, in some cases, to use data material collected in the research projects.
