Presentation

Norway and the European Union have an ambitious target of net-zero emissions by 2050 and laid out plans for a rapid transition of the energy sector. This will require significant investments over the next decades in both existing and new infrastructure. Often, these questions are considered in energy system optimization models that find cost efficient solutions satisfying physical, meteorological, technological and land use constraints. In this talk, Aleksander will discuss recent developments in "near-optimal" solutions in energy system modeling. Such solutions can be seen as trade offs between cost optimality and increased flexibility for policymakers and improving resilience against risks.

Speaker

Aleksander Grochowicz is a 3rd year PhD candidate at the Department of Mathematics and Technology Systems at UiO. He researches spatio-temporal uncertainties in energy systems. His main focus is using mathematical methods that for insights about energy transition pathways.

Program

11:30 – Doors open and lunch is served

12:00 – "Near-Optimal Planning of Renewable Energy Systems" by Aleksander Grochowicz (PhD Candidate, Risk and Stochastics)

This event is open for all PhD candidates and postdocs. No registration needed.

About the seminar series

Once a month, dScience will invite you to join us for lunch, soft drinks and professional talks at the Science Library. In addition to these, we will serve lunch to PhD candidates in our lounge in Kristine Bonnevies hus every Thursday. Due to limited space (40 people), this will be first come, first served. See how to find us here (download).

Our lounge can also be booked by PhDs and Postdocs on a regular basis, whether it is for a meeting or just to hang out – we have fresh coffee all day long! Read more about the seminar series here.
