The workshop on "Safety of AI in Energy & Critical Infrastructure" held on March 21, 2024, at NBIM London office, addressed the integration of AI in critical infrastructure and energy systems. The focus was on tackling common challenges and accelerating the safe implementation of AI, emphasising collaboration between the UK and Norway.

An academic career allows focusing on new scientific challenges and questions, to dive deep into the undiscovered aspects of nature, all while being surrounded by an environment and people sharing a dedication for excellence. This is inspiring, but early career academics also have many more challenges than other career paths, many of which go beyond the research subject one was prepared for. For example, projects are mired with delays; misunderstandings and miscommunications with supervisors and colleagues; managing emotions after a never-ending series of failed experiments and uncomfortable confrontations with professors etc… Academic life can also be intoxicating, keeping one so focused on their research field that it leaves them unaware and incapable to adapt when their career paths leads them outside of academia. All of this can be overwhelming, and many PhD and Postdoc finds themselves lost and uncomfortable, unaware of how to navigate the many.

Data science is about the development of methods, algorithms and systems to organize, refine and extract knowledge from data. dScience merges computational science and data science.
