The Brain Talk webinar is an online platform that gives the opportunity to scientists, researchers and early-stage researchers to present, discuss and share their brilliant ideas on Machine Learning (ML) and Computational Science. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn and achieve their full potential. To that goal, innovative ideas are shared here.

Interpretable Machine Learning Methods for House Price Prediction, Anders Hjort

Banks, insurance companies and other institutions are often interested in estimating the value of a single house or a large portfolio of houses. Machine learning methods like random forest and gradient boosted trees tend to outperform traditional statistical models for this task, but these models are often hard to interpret. In this talk, we experiment with different tree-based models for house price prediction on a data set of house transactions from Oslo and compare them in terms of prediction accuracy and interpretability.

Anders Hjort is an industrial PhD at the Statistics & Data Science group at the University of Oslo. The focus of his PhD work is to develop machine learning methods for the topic of house price prediction. The work is done in collaboration with the Norwegian financial technology company Eiendomsverdi, which is the leading provider of data about the Norwegian housing market. Anders has a MSc in Physics and Mathematics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.

Artificial Neural Network-Based Caprock Structural Reliability Analysis for CO2 Injection Site—An Example from Northern North Sea, Jamilur Rahman

Jamilur Rahman holds a Ph.D. geoscientist with a specialization in CO2 sequestration (CCS) technology. He received his PhD from the University of Oslo, Department of Geosciences, where he developed a strong background in petrophysics, rock physics, inversion, and geomechanics analyses. Currently, he is working as a researcher at the University of Oslo, Department of Geosciences.
