Forty-two students have gained work experience from a research project with a scholarship from UiO:Life Science this summer. The end of this year's summer projects was celebrated with presentations, poster exhibition and prize ceremony on 19 October.

Recently the new biotech company Tribune Therapeutics was established based on research conducted by Ole J?rgen Kaasb?ll and H?vard Attramadal. Ole J?rgen Kaasb?ll was admitted to UiO:Life Science’ innovation programme SPARK Norway in 2019 and will now assume the role of Chief Scientific Officer in the new company where Georg Vo Beiske, HealthCap has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Tribune Therapeutics aims to develop a treatment for fibrosis.

UiO:Life Science does not offer its own courses or study programs in life sciences, but wants to contribute to providing the students with the best possible educational programs. Departments and faculties can now apply for support to develop interdisciplinary bachelor courses in life sciences. The application deadline is 1 April.

UiO:Life Science will fund educational summer research projects for 40 students between April and September 2021 for students currently enrolled in a bachelor, master or relevant professional degree program at UiO. We now invite you to suggest projects for one or two students. The application deadline was 1 February 2021.

After being corona-delayed by six months, it was time to celebrate the first graduates from the innovation program SPARK Norway. The graduation of a total of nine projects was marked with the presentation of diplomas and presentations given by all project managers, also called SPARKees.

UiO:Life Science hopes to see Norwegian finalists in the pitch competition at the tech conference SLUSH in Helsinki on 5 December. The winner is granted 30 000 euros. Life science students and researchers in startups or pre-startups are welcome to apply before 1 October at 12:00.

At present UiO:Life Science funds seven convergence environments that address major challenges within life sciences related to health and environment/sustainable growth. A new application round starts now. Researchers from all units at UiO are welcome to participate.

UiO:Life Science shall recruit, educate and develop talents. Before Christmas the initiative announced that students could apply for summer research projects. The board has decided that as many as 66 students will be offered a project in 2018.

The new innovation programme SPARK Norway at UiO has admitted the first research groups – so called SPARKees. They will develop their ideas within health-related life sciences further for the benefit of patients and society.

SPARK Norway is a two-year innovation programme to further develop ideas within health-related life sciences for the benefit of patients and society. Researchers from UiO and affiliated research groups at OUS or Ahus can apply UiO:Life Science to be included in the programme.

We had a full house when Shinya Yamanaka, 2012 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, visited Oslo on September 6. He gave a lecture about a new era of medicine with induced pluripotent stem cells – iPS cells – and participated in a panel discussion on implications of stem cell therapy for patients and society. UiO:Life Science plans the launch of the SPARK innovation programme, developed by Stanford University. The goal is to get more innovation out of basic research. The other two European SPARK programs visit Oslo this summer to share their experiences, and one of UiO's PhD students will test the program's summer school in Japan.

The events are open to all.
