Traditions and Transitions

Happy New Year!

We have put behind us another year that tested our resilience and ability to innovate and continue bringing our students together for academic achievement and meaningful relationships. The ISS kick-started our 75th anniversary in 2021, and we were very happy to be able to maintain all our services and even reach many new student groups through the pandemic. Thank you for your continued support through yet another year full of challenges and opportunities!

It is wonderful to see our group of alumni continuing to grow and becoming part of our history, our tradition and the ISS family. Continuing to nurture knowledge, friendships and networks. Our alumni are our most important ambassadors and a testimony to academic goodwill and solidarity across borders.

The new year will bring another lively summer at the ISS. Admissions for Summer 2022 will be open from January 4 to February 15. All Bachelor's and Master's courses will be run digitally next summer, and we are excited to add more extracurricular activities and get even more students involved. Norwegian language courses will be in-person at the University of Oslo Blindern campus during summer 2022. Check out information for all our summer courses here

We are also happy to inform you that the Norwegian Life & Society webinar series will continue in the new year as part of the 75th celebration (see upcoming webinars here). Our Norwegian language classes (NORA and NORIN) have been steadily growing through the last years and the start of the NORA spring semester will begin our new year (find more information on NORA courses here).

For ISS, 2022 will also mark a transition to new leadership. It will be my pleasure to hand over the charge for our wonderful team to incoming director Anne Cathrine Uteng da Silva on May 1 when I retire from office.

Anne Cathrine who is currently Secretary General of the United Nations Association of Norway, says she is looking forward to coming on board: “There’s a time for everything”, she says. “My tenure as Secretary General expires in 2022. It has been five amazing and educational years together with wonderful knowledgeable colleagues, but where there’s an ending there’s always a new beginning. Education is key to development and opens up a world of opportunities that contribute to a more sustainable world for all. So in May, I'm really looking forward to taking on new tasks and becoming part of the team at ISS.”

Dear alumni, partners and friends of ISS: All the faculty and staff of the International Summer School are looking forward to meeting a dynamic new year along with you. Wishing you all a very healthy and happy 2022!
