Application and Admission

Find practical information about how to apply and what happens before, during and after your module application.

Before you apply

Please check all dates and make sure you can attend all sessions before applying. All session dates can be found on each module page.

  • Registration for the modules in spring 2024 is closed.
  • Registration for the modules in autumn 2024 is open from March 1st to April 15th, 2024.

You cannot apply for more than two elective modules at the same time per semester.

How to apply

1. Log into EVUweb

EVUweb

Select UiO as the institution and log in with your Min ID-port or Feide.

2. Register personal information in your EVUweb 'Profile'

Select 'English' as main language. Click on your name on the top right corner and register your personal information in your profile.

3. Register your application

a) You are applying for the first time

Use the search function in EVUweb. You must first register your application for the "Program for Basic Competence in University Pedagogy" and then the "Foundation module in University Pedagogy". Each application consists of four steps. Fill in all fields and upload documents along the way.

  • Step 1) Fill in contact information.
  • Step 2) Upload relevant documents.

*One of the requirements is that you have teaching assignments. Upload your schedule with an overview of the teaching hours for the upcoming semester in which you plan to take the basic module.
If your schedule is not finalized by the application deadline, you can submit a confirmation from your study coordinator or program leader confirming that you will be teaching in the current semester.
If you have any questions about your schedule, you can contact the study coordinator or program leader in your department.

*Upload a letter stating your motivation for applying to the "Program for Basic Competence in University Pedagogy", maximum one A4 page (approx.500 words).
The motivation letter should contain an introduction of yourself and your academic interest/background, as well as your academic motivation for applying to this program.

  • Step 3) Answer all follow-up questions.
  • Step 4) Review the application and complete it.

You will receive a receipt confirming that your application has been registered via email and on EVUweb. Up until the application deadline, you can change or withdraw your application, and upload new documentation.

b) You are applying for Elective modules 

Use the search function in EVUweb to find the Elective modules you wish to apply for. Note! You can apply for a maximum of 2 Elective modules at the same time. For each module, register your application by following these steps::

  • Step 1) Fill in contact information.
  • Step 2) Upload relevant documents.
  • Step 3) Answer all follow-up questions. 
  • Step 4) Review the application and complete it. 

You will receive a receipt confirming that your application has been registered via email and on EVUweb. Up until the application deadline, you can change or withdraw your application, and upload new documentation.

c) You are applying for Pedagogical Development Project

Use the search function in EVUweb to find the module 'Pedagogical Development Project'. Register your application by following these steps:

  • Step 1) Fill in contact information.
  • Step 2) Upload of documents necessary for this module. Here you provide us with info about your project idea. You can choose to write in Norwegian or English.

    Requirements for the report:
    Briefly describe your?initial intentions?for the development project in 200-500 words, including:

    1. What do you plan to do and why?

    2. With whom are you planning to collaborate and why? If you plan to collaborate with another applicant, please let us know who

    3. What is your initial timeline?

    4. Describe with whom you have discussed your project in your department or faculty. 

  • Step 3) Answer all follow-up questions. 
  • Step 4) Review the application and complete it. 

You will receive a receipt confirming that your application has been registered via email and on EVUweb. Up until the application deadline, you can change or withdraw your application, and upload new documentation.

After application

Response to the application

We start applications processing immediately after the application deadline. We aim to provide you with a response within approximately 2 weeks.

Admission

If your admission is granted, you will receive a message on "My Page" informing you that you have been offered admission. Click on "Respond to Offer". Once you have accepted the offer, it will be shown as "Offer Accepted".

You will then receive an email confirming your module registration.

If you do not confirm the offer, you will lose your offered admission.

Declining the offer

If you or the processing officer decline the offer, it will be shown as "Offer Declined".

Waiting list

We may add your application on a waiting list due to capacity constraints. We will inform and keep you updated on the status.

We do our best to achieve sufficient capacity so that those who a required to fulfill the basic competence requirements can complete the entire program within one academic year.

Transition Period

Starting January 2024, we will launch a revised version of the Program for Basic Competence in University Pedagogy at UiO. If you have started parts of the program before January 2024, the transition period applies to you.

Please note

The Foundation module in University Pedagogy  must have started or completed before you enroll in Elective modules and Pedagogical development project.

General requirements

  • Academic staff with teaching duties at UiO
  • Participation in all sessions is mandatory.
  • It is a formal requirement to have teaching duties while being enrolled in the Foundation module.
  • The Foundation module must have started or completed before taking Elective modules and the Pedagogical development project.

Ranking of applicants

If it is necessary to rank applicants due to limited course capacities, applications will be prioritized in the following order: permanent academic staff with teaching duties, staff in II-positions with teaching duties, postdocs in 4-year positions who have 25% duty work entailing teaching, other applicants.

Module fee

There is no module fee for employees at UiO.

The first session of the Introductory module will be held at a hotel and requires accommodation. Participation costs for you, who is a UiO employee, are invoiced to and covered by your unit. We open spots for applicants outside UiO only when there is available capacity. Please, send us an e-mail with your request for the desired module.

Module certificate

Once the entire program of a total of 200 hours is completed, you will receive a certificate of completion. To receive a module certificate, you must have attended all sessions and completed all assignments.

Why take this program?

Permanent academic staff are required to acquire university pedagogical basic competence within two years from the start date of their employment. Postdocs in 4-year positions are required to acquire university pedagogical competence within their period of employment. The academic's unit is responsible for ensuring the employees have sufficient time to follow the university pedagogy program in their work plans.

Module withdrawal

If you need to withdraw from a module, please unregister from the module in EVUweb. Do not hesitate to contact us for any assistance.
