The project is created as a response to several municipal strategies argued for in the Byr?dserkl?ringen 2019- 2023.
- Creating jobs and opportunities for youth, underscored in Kommuneplanens Samfunnsdel.
- The municipal plan for the city highlights the importance of creating spaces for creativity and innovation (Kommuneplan Oslo, 2018, p. 31).
- The municipal plan clarifies the importance of including children and youth through participation processes and states that they will work towards this until 2040 (Kommuneplan Oslo, 2018, p.31).

Context
The city council in Oslo has voiced that there is a need for youth activities and a broad variety of indoor leisure activities. Gr?nland has a high proportion of low-income families who live cramped, and therefore a need for year-round indoor spaces.
Project Description
Kaffeb?nna is a pilot for a youth-run café located at Sukkerbiten in Bj?rvika, within Oslo Fjordhage, co-created with youth from Hersleb Videreg?ende Skole and Hans J. Hamre. The café is a social meeting place that also creates jobs for youth. To increase ownership and engagement to the space, the youth who work on site is also involved in planning and facilitating the café. The aim is to create a space for youth in Gamle Oslo district where the age group 15-18 years who struggle to find suitable after school activities and spaces.
Outcomes
Kaffeb?nna café highlights the importance of cocreation and the possibilities for further implementation of similar activities. And at the same time shows that social entrepreneurship may be a viable way to increase youth spaces in Oslo. It also shows the potential and fruitfulness of temporary spaces such as Sukkerbiten.
