Project context

The project is a tool in the continous process of ensuring the successful establishment of TGR in Hovinbyen. It is in line with the Strategic Plan for Hovinbyen as well as the Principle Plan for The Green Ring.

Project description

The purpose is to facilitate for activity and engagement in urban development and promote the establishment of TGR and its identity,as well as invite the future users of TGR to participate in the shaping of it. TGR will be a recreational area and serve as a green mobility network across Hovinbyen.

Project outcomes

The project was divided into three parts:

  1. Physical placemaking elements at the four anchor locations, by placing green installations, QR-codes and signs conveying information about the location.
  2. A survey linked to the QR-code to ensure public participation in the future development.
  3. A digital event weekend promoted through social media to kick-start the installations and the survey, as well as getting attention in the public eye.

130 people showed interest in the facebook event and 29 people responded to the survey during the weekend. Answers to the survey were well thought through and several individuals confirmed the need for awareness regarding the ring as well as the lack of local engagement. Spreading awareness needs to be a continuous process in order to reach the best results. A meeting will be facilitated between Oslo Municipality and private developers regarding what roles they could play in that process.
