Infection prevention is still our main task

The government updated the guidelines for infection prevention on Friday 7 August 2020. The guidelines are largely in accordance with UiO’s existing plans for the start of semester.

– We are currently in a situation where the number of infections are increasing, and we understand that it is necessary to tighten restrictions in some areas, and halt loosening up in others. It is very important that all students and employees comply with regulations, otherwise we could, as an extreme measure, risk once again being forced to shut down our buildings, said rector Svein St?len.

Workplace guidelines

The university will facilitate for as many employees as possible to return physically to work in order to conduct teaching and research, while at the same time bearing in mind the  authorities’ advice to reduce the number of people using public transport during rush hour.

– In order to prevent a spreading of the virus, we will aim to balance the need for being present at UiO premises with working from home. Your line manager is responsible for assessing who must be present and who can work from home. This shall be decided in consultation with the employee. In the current situation, where short periods of working from home is an alternative, an oral agreement between manager and employee is sufficient, said St?len.

This is described more thoroughly in the guidelines: /english/about/regulations/personnel/common/

Prepared for face masks

The overall advice concerning social distancing, hygiene, and to stay at home in case of symptoms are still the most important infection prevention measures, but UiO is prepared for any updated advice.

– We can provide all employees and students with face masks for a limited period, should it become necessary. At the same time, I would like to remind everyone what minister H?ie said; that face masks are a supplement, and that the overall advice must still be followed, said St?len.

Testing and start of semester

In week 33, SiO Health will establish a testing service on Fredrikkeplassen. This will be open for students and employees.

– I urge you all to comply with regulations. If we all act in accordance with the implemented measures, I think we can look forward to an exciting autumn semester, concluded St?len.
