- I am very happy that we have a solution in place. We have been working for a national scheme since March, as these are challenges that apply to all students at all educational institutions in the country. We are now establishing an emergency fund at UiO that will help those who fell through the cracks when the corona pandemic hit us, said Svein St?len, Rector at the University of Oslo.

The grant of NOK 10.000 is aimed at students who have lost their income base and who are not included in national financial assistance systems because they are not members of the National Insurance Scheme or entitled to support from the State Educational Loan Fund.- We have developed a solution that aims wide and will be an important supplement in a difficult situation. It is crucial that those students who do not have the money to go home, and who have lost their income base, receive financial assistance with rent and food, said St?len.

This financial aid is available for self-financing master's students at UiO's master's degree programs available in English. This group consists of about 600 students.

- We have worked closely with the student welfare organisation SiO in this process, and have a good dialogue with them. I would like to encourage students to make use of SiO's offer of financial advice for those who are now in a difficult situation, continued St?len.

Applicants must document that they are resident in Norway, and that they have had a loss of income as a direct result of the corona crisis. Applicants must have expenses corresponding to the minimum amount of financial aid to be paid out, and not receive any other grants or financial support from UiO.

The application deadline is 1 June.
