American democracy is in crisis, and we present updated analysis about the root causes of the disenchantment with US politics, the role of social media and why it matters for scandinavian citizens.

Based on an interdisciplinary approach, the seminar pinpoints how politics and election campaigns are framed in social media, and how the American government suffers from disenchantment. The speakers are experts in their fields and have published widely on the topics of democracy, political communication, and social media campaigns.

You will hear:

  • Jeanne Sheehan Zaino, professor of Political Science at Iona University, USA and author of the book American Democracy in Crisis.
  • Jessica Yarin Robinson, media researcher at the University of Oslo.
  • Gunn Enli, professor of political communication at the University of Oslo.
  • Hans Olav Lahlum, historian and author.
  • Heidi Taksdal Skjeseth, former USA correspondent, author, now the Oslo Bureau Chief for Bloomberg.

The event is financed by UiO:Democracy and POLKOM – Centre for the Study of Political Communication.
