Microsoft Immersive Reader

A learning tool for both students and employees, where the text in Canvas can be read aloud and made more easily readable for the user. This tool is useful for the visually impaired and for people with reading challenges such as dyslexia.

Where do I find it in Canvas?

Microsoft Immersive Reader is a button that can be found in the homepage and all pages, assignments and the Syllabus in your Canvas rooms. Immersive Reader is is not available in the mobile app for Canvas.

How does it work?

Click on the button to open the Immersive Reader window and then click on the play button to have the text read aloud. You can also adjust the speed of text that's read aloud, as well as change the font type and size, line spacing, background color and more.

Immersive Reader can also be found in many Office 365 products, and its functions are the same regardless of product/platform. For a detailed overview this tool's functions, see this short YouTube film made by another Canvas institution:
