A lot has happened since the start of the semester here at the Faculty of Medicine.

With the official opening on 24 August of UiO Campus South, the first ten medical students are now in place to take parts of their education in Agder (link in Norwegian).

UiO Campus South is a major boost in educating more doctors in Norway. At UiO Campus South, we facilitate quality teaching, close follow-up of students in clinical placements, and better future recruitment of doctors to hospitals and municipalities in Agder.

Many people have worked very hard to make this happen. The collaboration between the University of Oslo and the Hospital of Southern Norway, and the involvement we have seen from the municipalities and the region, bodes well for further cooperation.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has put lots of work in to achieve this, and good luck to our students and new employees at UiO Campus South.

New student places to study medicine in Southern Norway

On 4 September, we received the good news that the Faculty of Medicine at UiO has received funding for 20 student places associated with the newly established UiO Campus South.

The allocation of 20 new student places gives us an opportunity to strengthen our efforts. We will continue to develop this campus and make it a great place to study for both students and health professionals.

Over the past year, the faculty has also worked on specific plans to establish a UiO Campus at Innlandet. The fact that NTNU Gj?vik has just been allocated 20 student places at Gj?vik means that we must now reconsider these plans. Innlandet is nevertheless a major partner with 134 practice placements for medical students, and it is very important to maintain this collaboration.

Congratulations on the awards and grants

Our faculty is involved in major, broad and outstanding research activity. It is fantastic to hear about all the new grants and awards from both Norway and abroad. Stay tuned to all the faculty’s communication platforms regarding research and innovation news!

Attend our meetings and seminars!

Both the faculty and our departments and units are arranging many seminars and meetings this semester, which we encourage you to attend. Stay tuned to our announcements and sign up!

The first of these events is Health for Ukraine (Thursday 14 September), where we once again encourage you all to participate either in person or digitally.

I wish you all a great start to this exciting autumn semester. Thank you for the great job you are all doing for ‘Outstanding Knowledge for Future Health’, our vision for our work at the Faculty of Medicine.

Kind, regards Hanne
