UiO:Democracy is one of three interdisciplinary initiatives at the University of Oslo, in addition to UiO:Energy and environment and UiO:Life Science.
Main activity
The main activity of the initiative is research, but we will also encompass
- outreach
- cooperation with non-academic institutions
- development of interdisciplinary education with democracy-relevant topics

- The formal start will take place on January 1.
- The budget for 2023 is about 20 million NOK.
- Faculty of Humanities is the host faculty.
- UiO:Democracy is an independent successor of UiO:Nordic.
- The UiO principal will appoint the board in the autumn of 2022.
- UiO:Democracy will run from 2023–2030.
