Everyone with a Feide account connected to UiO (username@uio.no) or an Educloud account can log into eLabJournal UiO and browse available services. However, for using eLabJournal actively, users need to be connected to at least one valid project or group registered in eLabJournal.
Below, we have provided a series of instructions that outline different use cases. Please note that some of these instructions are specifically applicable to staff members with specific roles in the system, such as group admins and system admins (key users).

Login and Setting Up a UiO eLabJournal Account as a UiO User
Please note that if you have both a UiO Feide account and an Educloud account, we recommend using the Feide account when creating your eLabJournal account for the first time.
Login with UiO / Feide account
To access the eLabJournal UiO platform using your UiO Feide account, follow these steps:
- Visit UiO's eLabJournal website at "https://uio.elabjournal.com/".
- Click on the "Feide" button for UiO users, which will redirect you to the Feide login page.
- Select "University of Oslo" and click on "Use work or school account".
- Enter your UiO username and password. Note: The UiO username refers to the part before "@uio.no" and is not your department email address.
Login and Setting Up a UiO eLabJournal Account as an Educloud User
As an external user without a UiO Feide account, you'll need to use your Educloud account when creating an eLabJournal account.
Login with an Educloud account
Please be aware that to gain access to eLabJournal using an Educloud account, your Educloud account must be linked to your organizational email address. Non-organizational email accounts from services like Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo will not be accepted. If you do not have an Educloud account, get in touch with us at datafangst@usit.uio.no. To log in to the eLabJournal UiO platform using your Educloud account, follow these steps:
- Visit UiO's eLabJournal website at "https://uio.elabjournal.com/".
- Click on the "EDUCLOUD RESEARCH" button for Educloud users, which will take you to the login page.
- To proceed, you will need to provide your Educloud user name (in the ec-username format), password, and the one-time code generated by Google Authenticator.

When you click on "Log in", you will be directed to your eLabJournal account.
Setting Up a group in UiO eLabJournal as a Group Administrator
Setting up a group in UiO eLabJournal as a Group Administrator requires the privilege of being a Key User. If you would like to establish a group in eLabJournal UiO, please fill out the following Nettskjema. You can contact the Key Users for assistance at datafangst@usit.uio.no.
Manuals for different roles
Depending on which role (privilege) you have within eLabJournal, user interface of eLabJournal and available functions differ. Below is the list of manuals for different roles.
- For End-users (e.g., Lab Engineers and students)
- For Group Administrators (e.g., Lab Managers)
- For System Administrators (i.e., Key Users)
