Information flow and data sources in My Studies

My Studies is the gateway to the students’ digital learning environment. My Studies imports content from Vortex, Canvas, TP and FS. Frequently used study-related services are available through shortcuts, such as Studentweb and Leganto.

Schedule / calendar

The schedule shows exams and teaching from TP and Canvas submissions.

Messages

Messages are retrieved from Canvas and TP, and students at the University of Oslo also receive messages from uio.no. The student will receive the messages in a single feed, in chronological order.

From Canvas, announcements are retrieved from:

  • the rooms in which the student participates
  • the courses
  • the study programme
  • the cohort and class

From uio.no, UiO students receive messages from:

  • the study programme (and possibly field of study)
  • any courses they are registered for

Notification of cancelled teaching is obtained from TP. Students are notified of changes in the teaching if:

What does the message from TP look like?

The message comes from TP as a:

  • push notification in the My Studies app for students who are registered with a course
  • message in My Studies to students who are registered with a course
  • comment in the schedule, and in other calendars that subscribe to the schedule

Avoid giving students the same message many times

The students want the same, predictable publishing routine across courses and study programs, and that the same message is not published in several channels. To achieve this, messages must be published once and in one channel. See recommendations for which messages should be published in which channel at UiO (in Norwegian).

Overview of study programs and courses

My Studies lists the study programs and courses the student is registered with in the current semester. The lists are retrieved from FS, and the links to courses and study programs are retrieved from Vortex based on program and course code.

Errors or omissions in the schedule?

If students do not see topics or schedules in My Studies, it is usually due to missing or incorrect registrations in FS. Contact the study consultant for the course for further troubleshooting. They are also super users, and are able to see what the schedule looks like for the students.

Students can customize shortcuts and layouts in My Studies

My Shortcuts provide students with links to important services in their studies. Students are given a standard layout of the most popular shortcuts, and can edit and choose which shortcuts they want, and decide the order. They can also add their own shortcuts.

Students can control whether the timetable or shortcuts are displayed at the top of My Studies.
