In order for the termination of Padlet to go smoothly, Padlet will be available to UiO users until 31 January 2022, and no new users have been added since October 1. It can thus be used throughout the autumn semester and until the last exam is over in January. Note: The termination of Padlet at UiO applies to all use of Padlet, including "vanilla Padlet" (padlet.com) and any other variants.
Online services and tools that teachers and students use at UiO process personal data in an appropriate and secure way. It is therefore important to safeguard personal data and prevent it from misuse, and UiO must follow all laws and regulations. UiO has its own process for evaluating online services and tools used in educational and research activities. The evaluation of privacy and security are central in this process. Privacy and security concerns with online services and tools at UiO must also be continually assessed after they are in use, and this is what has happened in the case with Padlet. Padlet was previously approved for use, but after an evaluation in light of the Schrems II ruling it was revealed that Padlet is no longer in accordance with current laws and regulations. All UiO Padlet users will soon receive an email with information about the termination of Padlet at UiO. The email also contains information about how you can export your own content from Padlet, and recommendations from LINK about online services/tools that can replace Padlet. If you are not a registered user in UiO’s Padlet (uio.padlet.org) then you will not receive this email automatically, but you can request a copy by sending an email to canvas-hjelp@admin.uio.no.
