October is IT Security Month at the UiO

It is once again Secure October. Our goal is to make IT security a natural part of your day through events and eLearning. Everyone should contribute to a safe and secure UiO.

Information security for all

– This is the tenth time we host the IT security month, Secure October, at the UiO, says St?le Asker?d Johansen from the IT Security Group at USIT. - Secure October is a part of the National Cyber Security Month. This year, we have eLearning for employees, security tips for the students and The Day of the Dead Documents in our program. The last event sounds scary, and it is! says Johansen.

An all new eLearning lesson

The lesson is about information security in daily life, including a module about how to work safely and securely when you are working from home or other places not on campus. The course is designed to enhance your knowledge about IT security and show you how to make smart choices to keep UiO and our data safe. The other module is more practical in nature, teaching you how to recognize fake emails.

The day of the dead documents

– October is the scary month, and we happily contribute with assurances that lacking IT security is really scary. That is why we have The Day of the Dead Documents to clean out the documents you no longer need - online, on your computer, in OneDrive and elsewhere. The fewer documents you have, the smaller the chance that any of them are misplaced, says Johansen.

Talk to colleagues and friends about IT security. The worst case scenario on Halloween isn't costumed children on your door, but strangers getting access to your passwords or misplaced documents.
