News about printing from home and from devices outside the UiO network

At UiO, you can print from PCs, mobile phones, tablets and other machines and devices. Until now, you have also had the opportunity to send printouts to printers at UiO from home and from devices that are not on UiO's network. For security reasons, this must be terminated and this applies from Friday 8 April:

You can not use the service mobilprint.uio.no directly, or via EveryonePrint app,

  • when you are at home (or other locations outside UiO)
  • when you are at UiO, but not connected to a UiO network (wired network or Eduroam/uioguest)

This will affect very few since the need to print on UiO printers from home is small. But, if you need just that, you can install VPN and still use the service through the secure VPN environment. UiO owned Windows PCs (laptops / home computers) are not affected by this, as they have a built-in VPN.

In summary

From Friday 8 April, this applies:

  • Printing at UiO works as before
  • Printing from home from UiO-owned/-operated Windows PCs works as before
  • If you need to print to UiO printers from home or to UiO from devices that are not on the UiO network, you need to install VPN
