Creating a WebID group

In WebID, all Feide and UiO users can create their own WebID groups, which can then be used in services that support WebID. Both Feide and WebID users can be members of WebID groups, but WebID users cannot create or moderate groups. You need a Feide/UiO user to do that.

To create a WebID group:

  1. Go to webid.uio.no.
  2. Click Log in under Web ID Groups.
  3. Enter your Feide/UiO user name and password. Users created in WebID cannot create or moderate groups.
  4. Click Create new group.
  5. Enter the necessary information.
    • Name is the group identifier in all services in which the group will be used.
    • Description should explain to others what the group is to be used for. It should be as easily understood as possible, so as to make it easier for others to find the groups they want.
    • Web page is optional, but should point to where the group will mainly be used. This is to help moderators maintain an overview of how different groups are used.

When the group has been created, you can invite Feide users, WebID users and new, unassociated people to become members of the group.

The group will be available in the various services when it contains at least one member. It may take a few minutes before the group is available in the various services. You give access to the group in the actual service.

You can invite other Feide members to moderate groups, so as to distribute the administration work. Please note that users created in WebID cannot create or moderate groups.
