Programme structure

Theoretical curriculum

The theoretical curriculum consists of either 60 or 90 ECTS credits, depending on the extent of your master's thesis. You plan your curriculum together with your supervisor, and it must include at least 30 ECTS credit chemistry courses at 4000/5000 level.

Relevant courses:

If you have previously not taken the course BIOS3xxx - Biochemistry 2 or KJM3310 – Physical Chemistry III - Statistical Thermodynamics for Chemistry or equivalent, the course BIOS4xxx - Biochemistry 2 or KJM4310 – Physical Chemistry III - Statistical Thermodynamics for Chemistry  must be included in your theoretical curriculum.

You may choose the remaining courses from courses at the Department of Chemistry.

You may include up to 15 ECTS credits of special syllabus, planned in agreement with your supervisor. The special syllabus may include lecture series, literature, scientific articles and so on that are relevant to the theme of the Master's thesis. It may not include literature that you should have read as background for your thesis.

Master's thesis

You may choose either a short Master's thesis of 30 ECTS credits, or a long thesis of 60 ECTS credits. In this programme option, it is common to find a supervisor and theme for the thesis in connection with the research section Bio3 - Chemical Life Sciences. The section can offer master's thesis within polymer chemistry, soft matter, biomaterials, protein crystallography, crystallography, molecular biology and protein chemistry. NB! If you want a master's thesis and supervisor from the group Bioanalytical Chemistry, you must apply for admission to the analytical chemistry programme.

In addition you may find a supervisor and theme for your thesis in affiliation to the following research groups or research projects:
