Inspired by the need to change and drastically reduce the consumption of textiles, I wanted to explore the world of textile mending, specifically visible mending. For my project I interviewed four different menders. We talked about their experience with mending and the motivation behind, and how visible mending intersects with craftivism, creativity, self-care and sense of community. During the interviews I documented the mended textiles, the equipment and the mending process in photographs. The exhibition combined quotes from the interviews, with pictures and actual mended clothes to showcase the variety in technique and hopefully inspire others to get creative with mending.
