The five largest global university rankings all rate UiO as the best university in Norway. The Shanghai Ranking, focusing on research quality, ranked UiO as 62nd in the entire world in 2016.

The MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management programme at UiO will provide you with a degree from a well-recognized university within research and innovation. As a student, you will have access to world-class research groups and the opportunity to engage and specialize in your field of interest.

Norway’s most thriving start-up ecosystem only doorsteps away

Oslo hosts the most advanced entrepreneurial ecosystem in Norway, the majority located on-campus.  Oslo Science Park, located in immediate proximity to the programme facilities, is home to more than 240 new and established companies in addition to three business incubators operating as launch pads for highly innovative start-up companies. StartupLab focuses on ICT and technology, Aleap focuses on the health sector, and ShareLab focuses on biotech companies. ShareLab also offers shared lab facilities serviced by professional staff.  Oslo Science Park bustles with activity and serves as a meeting place for start-ups and industry. Three subways stops downtown is MESH, one of several other incubators, co-working spaces and accelerators in Oslo. This burgeoning entrepreneurial ecosystem has generated international attention lately, and is now a frequently requested stopover for royal/precedential/governmental visits from abroad touring the city.

The close proximity to this start-up ecosystem provides you with the opportunity to both be inspired and engaged in the start-up ecosystem. In the MSc in Entrepreneurship Management Innovation programme, we encourage you to engage in the start-up ecosystem on your own but you will also have many opportunities in the second semester to experience the start-up environment first hand. As part of our programme, student groups operating as founding teams will try to develop a start-up project of their own in close collaboration with one of the local incubators.

Sophisticated industrial clusters in close vicinity

In the immediate vicinity of the university campus, you will find Norway’s largest selection of industrial clusters, a few of them world leading.  The pharmaceutical cluster, focusing on research and development of new treatments within cancer, counts approximately 90 different member organization. This cluster has fostered the cancer therapeutic company Algeta, one of the most highly valued start-ups developed in the Nordics. The subsea cluster counts more than 200 companies with a total revenue of NOK 70 billion and nourishes a broad competence base within subsea technology development and engineering of large scale, complex, and safety-critical systems, at high pressures and temperatures. The largest member companies provide world-class products and services to the global energy market supported by a strong and diversified local supplier base. Oslo also hosts Norway’s most developed industrial clusters within both ICT and health related services and products.

For students, the close vicinity to these industrial clusters provides opportunities to engage with innovative companies within these industries. In the third term, students organized in small teams will carry out a predefined project in a medium to large local company providing real-world experience in working with innovation within such Companies.
