Why did you apply for MSc in Entrepreneurship?
I have always had a dream of starting my own company, and I saw from the structure of the programme that it was very hands-on. Moreover, it looked like I can combine the knowledge I have gained from my bachelor into the master in a good way. I think it has worked well so far!
Why is the programme relevant for a computer scientist?
In computer science you learn how to build a product, while in entrepreneurship you learn about how to go from product to business. For instance in regards to how to make money, marketing and how to get the product to the market.
Are you using knowledge from your bachelor in the master programme?
From my bachelor I learned everything from UX design to user interface, programming and really most of what is needed to create prototypes and products. You get good use of these skills in entrepreneurship. Currently we are at STARTUPLAB where we are developing our product, and get to use this knowledge every day.
What are you working on at STARTUPLAB?
We have an open assignment this semester, which is to develop a company. It involves both business development, programming, marketing and finding customers. It is great that we are tied to an actual start-up environment. Parallel to this, we have courses at the university which provides training in what we practice.
The most fun thing about the master is that it is easy to practice. What you learn in the classroom, you can bring to STARTUPLAB and try.
What have you learned from the master programme so far?
In the first semester the focus was on investment analysis. We learned how to decide whether in a company is worth investing in or not. We also learn about finance, marketing, team work and management. At the same time we get to try these things through practical assignments.
How is the class environment?
The class environment is very good. We are a small group of 20 students and we work closely together. It is a very diverse group. There are people from all over the world with background from various industries. Everything from petroleum to chemistry, informatics and construction engineers. We do a lot of teamwork, which makes the overall pool of knowledge bigger. Working with people from different backgrounds is very fruitful. The ideas come faster and the solutions get better.
What are you going to use the MSc in Entrepreneurship for?
At some point during my career I will probably start my own company. But at first I want a job in a larger company, and hopefully work with innovation and intrapreneurship, business development, sales, management, and marketing. There is a wide range of things you can do.
Who do you think the MSc in Entrepreneurship is suitable for?
Anyone who has an interest outside his or her field to engage in some form of management, or who wants to start a business, should consider applying for the programme.
