Course content

The course focuses on an area within the field of Japanese linguistics. To the extent possible, this is decided in dialogue with the students.

Learning outcome

Through the study of literature on the subject, both in Japanese and in European languages, students will become acquainted with an area of Japanese linguistics.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

JAP2110 (or the equivalent from other institutions)

Recommended previous knowledge

An extra full year of language studies in Japan after JAP2110 is highly recommended.

Teaching

Teaching is concentrated into the first weeks of the autumn semester. Throughout the rest of the semester students are supervised via e-mail in the writing of their essays.

Examination

Students are to write an essay of approx. 5000 words.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Evaluation

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.

Other

The course is part of the MA-Degree in Japanese language (Language Programme).
