IRSK1501 – Celtic Civilization - Mainland Celtic and Island Celtic (ca. 700 BC - ca. 1000 AD)

Course content

The course will forcus the main sources that tells us about Celts on the continent and the British Isles and their different cultures (with an emphasis on Irish and Welsh).

Learning outcome

Students will become familiar with who the Celts are and were. They will be able to describe the main features of the history, institutions, society and culture of the Celtic populations of CA. 1000 a.d. They should also be able to understand and use the source material that forms the basis for such an description.

Admission

Teaching

The teaching is given in seminars with 14 double lectures 28 hours in total.

One qualifying assignment has to be approved before the student may sit for the final examination. If the assignment is not approved, the student has the opportunity to hand in a revised version for a second try.

Access to teaching

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.

Examination

The final mark for the course is set on the basis of a three-day take-home exam.

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
