Kurset vil ta for seg virkningene av og form?let for amerikansk politikk etter den kalde krigen - politisk s? vel som ?konomisk - i sammenheng med en voksende internasjonal sf?re. Kurset er organisert rundt en gruppe sp?rsm?l: Hvordan b?r amerikansk politikk forst?s i en internasjonal sammenheng? Finnes det alternativer til den regjerende verdensorden og hvordan kan i s? fall disse realiseres? I hvilken utstrekning har verden beveget seg utover nasjonalstatens grenser mot et nytt, internasjonalt samfunn?

? utvikle et integrert syn p? verdensutviklingen med vekt p? sammenhengene mellom utenrikspolitikk, makro?konomi og politisk struktur. Studere ideenes betydning i avgrensningen av den politiske debatt. Finne fram til og diskutere alternativer til den eksisterende verdensorden.

This course overlaps with ENG2574 and ENG2576 ¨C USA and the World: Contemporary American Foreign Policy (discontinued).

Teaching

The course is taught throughout the semester with 2 hours per week, 28 hours in all. There is a mid-term break (one week in autumn term, two weeks in spring term) during which the students are expected to prepare obligatory assignments (see below) and otherwise study on their own. The students are supposed to attend the course regularly.

Examination

Students will write an essay (5 standard pages, 11.500 bytes) at an appointed time. The essay must be approved by the tutor; if it is not, the student will be barred from attempting the final 3-day take home exam, which is graded from A to E (pass) and F (fail).
