Course content
The thesis is an independent reasearch project of about 80–100 pages on a subject chosen from North-American culture and society. The thesis has to be approved by your supervisor and must be written in English. The thesis will usually find its basis in one of the 4000-level courses chosen by the students, but the students are also allowed to choose other fields of study, provided that it is approved by a supervisor that has agreed to act as such.

Learning outcome
The thesis work will give insigh into scientific and methodological problems, as well as in-depth knowledge of a defined area of North-Amrican culture and society. In addition, the thesis will develope the student's ability to critically and independently assess source material. This work is also central in improving the students' English usage skills.

Formal prerequisite knowledge
Admission to the Master Program in EAS: North-American studies.

Teaching
The agreement of supervision must be filled out and submitted to your student adviser. Note that having a supervisor is an obligatory part of the master thesis and that the agreement of supervision must be approved before the thesis can be submitted.

Examination
The thesis can be submitted by 15. September or 15. November in the autumn semester and 15. February or 15. May in the spring semester.

It will be graded by an exam commision consisting of one internal and one external examiner, and will be graded on a descending scale from A to E for a pass and F for a fail.
A written explanation for the grade will be mailed to the students when exam results are ready.
