MEVIT4325 – Media and Democratisation Processes - Summer school course

Course content

The course aims at discussing the role of media in relation to processes of democratization. It has both a theoretical and a practical analytical perspective. Examples of the political processes discussed on a theoretical basis will be linked to political experiences from different parts of the world. The course will have its theoretical foundation in democratic theory, theories of globalisation, civil society/public sphere theory, and theories relating to new media and democracy.

Learning outcome

The students are expected to take an active part in the course, and thus learn to discuss the complex relations between media and democratisation processes. Coursework develops skills of both oral and written presentation and argumentation.
