Course content

Important topics in plasma astrophysics and cosmic physics.

Learning outcome

The course gives a theoretical background to master and Ph.D. theses in plasma astrophysics.

Admission

To participate in this course you must have an admission to a Ph.D.-programme at a Norvegian University or University College.

If you do not have an admission to the Ph.D.-Programme in Science at The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UiO, you have to apply for hospitantstatus (norwegian text) . For more information, please contact the Department.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Bachelor degree of the Fysikk, astronomi og meteorologi (bachelor) (continued) programme or comparable.

Recommended previous knowledge

Bachelor degree of the Fysikk, astronomi og meteorologi (bachelor) (continued) programme, specially AST3130/4130. FYS4620 – An Introduction to Plasma Physics may also be useful.

Overlapping courses

10 credits AST309 and 10 credits AST5130 – Space Plasma (discontinued).

Teaching

2 hours of lectures/tutorials each week.

Examination

A final oral examination. Compulsory home exercises may be given. Letter grades.

Other
