DIGHEL4360 ¨C Informatics for health workers

Course content

This course is an introduction to relevant topics in informatics for students with a health background. It covers foundational aspects of informatics, such as programming, databases, networks, software development approaches and user participation. The course will provide students with a socio-technical perspective on digital technologies and information systems, with an emphasis on information needs in the health sector. By the completion of the course, the students will have a solid base on which to build key digital health competency.

Students will examine and play with code examples as a pedagogical approach to understand important programming principles, algorithmic thinking and modularization.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, you can:

• explain basic principles of computer programming and databases
• explain important properties of digital technologies and how they can be employed to address information needs
• contribute to discussions regarding the application of digital technologies in the health sector
• demonstrate a socio-technical understanding of information systems
• discuss ethical issues associated with digitalization in the health sector

Admission to the course

This course is only available to students admitted to the master programme Digitalization in the Health Sector who belong to the programme option Health.

Teaching

2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of seminars per week

The following are mandatory activities:

• Attending the first lecture
• 80% participation in seminars?
• Participation in projects with individual and group assignments

Examination

4 hours?written digital exam. All mandatory activities must be approved before you can take the exam.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.

Resit an examination

Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are?offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester.

Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
