IN5160 – Digital Leadership

Course content

The course focuses on the specific managerial tasks and challenges of the digital economy. It deals in particular with the management of digital resources, such as data, algorithms and ecosystems, including security and privacy. The course also introduces digitalisation as ?strategizing?, i.e. continuous development of ideas and solutions. Theoretically, the course builds on research on digital leadership in international and Norwegian contexts, and the students will also acquire practical skills in leadership and communication.

Learning outcome

After taking?this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the particular tasks and challenges of digital management and digital strategizing
  • Analyse digital leadership challenges from cases, and assess possible solutions?
  • Conduct a professional oral presentation of a digital option and choice
  • Understand?the security, privacy and ethical aspects of digitalisation
  • Critically reflect on digital leadership as a practice

Students admitted to the Master's programme Informatics: Digital Economics and Leadership (master's two years) will be prioritized.

It is recommended to have taken at least 20 credits in business courses prior to?this course, such as INEC1800, INEC1810, INEC1820, INEC1831

Teaching

2 hours of lectures and?2 hours of assignment training per week.

Teaching is based on a mixture of theory lectures and active discussions in class. Assignment training is case analysis, and presentation exercises with video.

80% attendance of the lectures is mandatory.?

Examination

The course grade is based on the following assessments:

  • a term paper to be written in groups of two or three, on a self-chosen topic decided in collaboration with the course leader: 50%
  • two individual assignments, presented orally: 25% each

In addition, 80% attendance of lectures?is required?in order to pass the course.

All parts of the exam and the attendance must be passed, and passed?in the same semester, to pass the course.

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F?is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.
