IN5620 – Interaction with AI and autonomous systems

Schedule, syllabus and examination date

Course content

The course introduces the evolving interdisciplinary research?area of?Interaction with Artificial Intelligence and autonomous?systems to students who are interested in interaction,?design, and use of?digital systems.

The course consists of?3?modules.

The first?module covers the?history of use and interaction with AI and autonomous systems.??Concepts and definitions of AI, autonomous?systems, and machine learning is opened?up and discussed. Universal Design of AI?systems and autonomous systems, where human autonomy and machine autonomy meet is?a part of this module. In addition,?accountability, transparency, explainability, and privacy will be introduced in this module.

In the second?module, students will learn the foundations and state of the art in the design of?Interaction with AI and autonomous systems. This is done by working with design?guidelines and principles for AI-infused systems. In addition, the students?will work with the basic technologies and algorithms for current AI and autonomous?systems.?

The third?module is a reflection, writing, and review module. In this module, the students will refine and?work with feedback from the two modules in order to present final?deliveries.

Learning outcome

After successful completion of this course, you can:

  • explain and present the history?of interaction with AI and autonomous systems

  • apply and?discuss Universal Design of AI and?autonomous systems

  • explain the concepts: accountability,?transparency, explainability and privacy in the context of use of AI and autonomous?systems.

  • apply?and discuss design guidelines?for interaction with AI?and autonomous systems

  • conceptualize, design, and evaluate?a?prototype together with users

  • differentiate between macro,?meso and micro level use of AI and autonomous systems
