Course content

We are witnessing revolutionary changes in the Internet related to the proliferation of social networking services. While these services cross many areas of computer science, we will try to consider them from the perspective of distributed computing. This research oriented seminar explores state-of-the art advances, principles, and techniques in the area. In particular, the seminar covers

  • Online social networking (such as Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter).
  • Mobile social networking (including sensornet services and delay tolerant networks)

Incentives in social networks and in content distribution
P2P streaming and its use in social networks
    Dissemination schemes for social content

Learning outcome

  • Learning about research advances related to one of the most popular technological areas today.
  • Getting experience of reviewing and summarizing research papers and presentations.
  • Getting experience of participating in research discussions with peers.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
