UNIK4140 – Man - Machine - Interaction

Course content

The ability to master everyday living is becoming increasingly dependant upon interacting with ICT (Information and Communication Technology). In general, this interaction is based on technological premises, not the end users. It is therefore essential that anyone designing IKT (hardware and software) has a basic understanding of man- machine interaction and ergonomics. During the course, a basic understanding of concepts such as perception (visual, auditive and tactile), cognative models, use of metaphors, ergonomics, alternative ways of inputting data, (keyboard, mouse, pointing devices, speech, etc). The course is especially relevant for ICT and Human Computer Interaction (HCI), although it is also relevant fr other forms of interaction between end users and ICT.

Learning outcome

The course goal is to provide course participants with a basic understanding of end users physical and cognitive limitations and preconditions that should be considered when developing ICT, (software and hardware). As a result of the course, participants should be able to analyse simple functions and develop system concepts so that they match end users needs with regards to comprehension and accessibility.
