Course content

The course is focused on the properties of materials used in modern technology. The topics treated include crystal structures, bonding, and physical properties (electrical, magnetic, optic etc) of materials. Focus is given to the relationship between properties and crystal structure.

Learning outcome

The student should gain insight into the structure and properties of a broad spectrum of functional materials.

Teaching

The course comprises 3 hours of lectures and 4 hours of exercises per week, as well as 2 mandatory reports.

Examination

One written midterm exam (1 hour, counting 20 % of final result). Final written exam (4 hours, counting 80 % of final result).

Withdrawal from an examination

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.

Other

The teaching in this course will be cancelled if less than 3 students register within the deadline for the course registration. An approved sett of mandatory reports is valid in four subsequent semesters after it was approved for the first time.
