We continue with digital teaching in week 4 (and most likely for some time after that). As announced in an earlier message, the exercise session will be moved to Tuesdays starting 26 January.

Starting from week 4, the lecture on Tuesdays and the exercise session on Wednesdays will swap time slot. Thus, the lectures will be Monday 10:15-12:00 and Wednesdays 10:15-12:00 (starting 27 January) and the Exercises will be run on Tuesdays 12:15-14:00 (starting 26 January).

We continue with digital teaching in week 3, meaning there will be prerecorded videos of lectures for 18 and 19 January and a Zoom-meeting for the exercise session 20 January. I will also set up a Zoom-meeting for January 18 at 10:15-11:00 where you can ask questions: about the course, the videos so far, other course related matters.

The Zoom-links are available from Canvas. If you do not have access to Canvas, send an email to me or Bj?rn Skauli and ask for the link.

Good morning. The first lecture is uploaded, in the form of 2 videos.

I will create a Zoom session on Mondays, starting next week, to take in questions.

The lectures in this course will be Monday at 10:15-12:00 and Tuesday at 12:15-14:00. The group session for solving exercises is  Wednesday at 10:15-12:00, with first session on 20 January.

For Monday 11 January and Tuesday 12 January, I will post videos of the lectures shortly before the start in the timeplan. You will find these by following the link under Schedule on the main course page, then Lectures (for the Monday session) and  Plenary (for the Tuesday session). There will be no Zoom session on these days.

The exercise sessions will take place in Zoom.

If digital teaching continues for a while, I will plan Zoom-sessions for Mondays to answer questions and solve small tests/quizzes.

I plan to cover the material in chapters 1,2,3,5,6,7 in the book by A. Terras and some material on Galois theory for more general fields (to supplement section 7.6 in Terras). For the last topic, I will post some notes. You can also read about Galois theory in the book by J. Fraleigh. Time permitting, we will look at some of the applications in Terras' book (most likely 4.2, 4.5, 8.2 and 8.3).

Vi bruker den nye boken av Audrey Terras "Abstract algebra with applications" som hovedkilde. Jeg planlegger ? gjennomg? noe av kapittel 10 i John Fraleigh "A first course in abstract algebra" (7. utgave), men til dette vil jeg skrive notater som blir tilgjengelige fra denne siden.

We use the new book "Abstract algebra with applications" by Audrey Terras as primary source. I plan to cover some material from chapter 10 in John Fraleigh's book "A first course in abstract algebra", 7th edition, but for this part I will make available some notes.

Velkommen til kurset! Welcome to this course!
