We can (which means I can!) choose either written or oral exam.  So if there is no revolutionary protests, we go for an oral exam.

Due to collisions we decided to move the Wednesday lecture to

Thursday 12.15 - 14.00

It will take place at the institute which now resides at Ullev?l stadion (Sognsveien 77B)  in the room named "Handy Dandy".

No room was available at Blindern Campus at the actual time. Handy Dandy is not vert big, but I hope it will work out.

Welcome to MAT4270!

The course will have  (hopefully) three parts:

1) Finite groups

2) Compact groups, compact Lie groups

3) Complex Lie algebras

I shall follow a specific book, but I have made some preliminary noteswhich hopefully will be useful. They will expand and change. For a good  list of relevant literature  consult the cours' web-page for the year 2013.

We shall however do things a little more algebraically than in the previous versions of the course, a little in positive characteristic as well.
