Syllabus/achievement requirements

This course consists of two (at times closely interrelated) parts:

Part I: Measure and integration

Part II: Linear operators, mostly on Hilbert spaces

Literature

  •  "Spaces -- An introduction to Real Analysis", 1st edition (AMS, 2017), by Tom L. Lindstr?m.  Here is a list of known misprints in "Spaces".
  •  "Notes on Elementary Linear Analysis" by Erik Bédos. These notes will be made available during the semester.    Here is a complete version of the notes p. May 23, 2019. Knowledge of section 5.4 will not be required at the final exam. This includes exercises 5.17--5.20, which are related to this section.

Curriculum Spring 2019

The curriculum will consist of most of chapter 7 and sections 8.1-8.5 in Lindstr?m's book and of the notes on linear analysis. Here is a more precise description of the curriculum this semester.

From Lindstr?m's book

Sections 7.1 - 7.6 and section 7.9;

Sections 8.1 - 8.3, section 8.4 (except the example following Prop. 8.4.6) and section 8.5.

From the notes on Elementary Linear Analysis:

Chapters 2 - 4 and sections 5.1 - 5.3.

The content of all the exercises solved during the course is also part of the curriculum.
