Textbook and preliminary Syllabus

We are using the textbook:

James R. Munkres: "Topology", 2nd edition, Prentice Hall, 2000, ISBN: 0-13-181629-2 or ISBN: 0-13-178849-8 (the hardcover and paperback editions seem to have totally different ISBN-numbers)

The plan is to cover most of chapters 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9 (see the preliminary teaching plan  for more information). We will also include the statement but not the proof of the Tychonoff Theorem (Theorem 37.3) Chapter 1 is not part of the regular syllabus, but contains background information. Most of this will be well-known to many of you, but some parts we shall have to pick up as we go along.
