Note the revised list of exam problems for Friday's class. Since you may find complete solutions on the web pages for the last three years, I have chosen a few problems from earlier exams instead.

Note that this is the last week of teaching in MAT4500/3500 this term. But you are welcome to come and ask questions to the teachers in the course. We both have offices on the 6th floor of the math building.

I have now finished the regular lectures. Next week is devoted to going through various problems, the mandatory exercises, previous exams and from Munkres. See list under "Detailed teaching plan".

The mandatory exercises have now been graded, and the results have been registered electronically. The corrected papers may be found on the shelves on the 7th floor tomorrow morning (Friday 11.11). Those of you who did not get their papers approved, have another chance, now with a deadline Friday Nov. 18th, before 1430.

Oops! An observant student pointed out that the word "Hausdorff" is missing in problem 4c, for the first question to make fully sense. In other words, show that if X is compact Hausdorff, then CX is compact etc. This does not affect anything else but this one question.

Some old exam problems from earlier versions of this course (Ma 245 and Ma 232) have been added under "Oppgaver". Unfortunately they are all in Norwegian.

Another trivial misprint in the text of the "oblig" problems has been corrected: In 4a "the subset A is a subset, not an element of Xx[0,1]"

We are now about to start the material in part II of Munkres' book. This involves a certain amount of basic group theory, and therefore a link to a short survey of the most fundamental definitions and constructions (written by Tom Lindstr?m) has been added under "teaching material".

A misprint in problem 1 of the mandatory exercises has been pointed out to me. It has now been corrected, and the text of the problem has been changed slighly to make it clearer.

Note: The problem session Oct. 13 and the lecture Oct. 14 will be interchanged, so that on Thursday there will be a regular lecture by Bj?rn Jahren 1015-1200 in B62, and Friday the problem session will be held by Knut Berg 1215-1400 in B91.

The exercises sessions will the next two weeks (Sept. 29 and Oct. 6) be led by Sigurd Segtnan (B 607).
