We have now finished the grading, but I don't know if/when the results will be available on StudentWeb (they don't bother to tell us instructors). The results were in general good and nobody failed the course this year. I am sorry the grading took so long, but it was mainly due to the handling of the papers - it took a small eternity to get them from Silurveien to Blindern and then from Blindern to the external examiner.

The grading instructions are available here.

I apologize for the silly mistake in the the exam set – it probably arose from mixing two versions of the problem. I hope you didn't get too confused or lose to much time.

There was an error in Problem 4 of Trial Exam 2, 2019, that has now been corrected.

I am not allowed to be present at the exam. If there are any problems with the exam set, get in touch with the guards who will contact me on telephone. They supposedly have my number, but if you want to memorize it, it's 90 16 56 94.

I have updated the formula sheet for the exam (it will come with the exam as an attachment). As I have made a few additions (and corrections!) it may be worthwhile to take a look. Note that I have kept the entries on martingale convergence and uniform integrability for later years although these topics are not part of this years curriculum.

I finally got around to making podcasts of the last of the weekly problem sets. You'll find them on the bottom of the "from the lectures"-page. For some reason, the sound seems to be a little delayed on some of the recordings, but not more than I think you can handle.

I have decided to use all of this lecture for review and make a separate recording for this week's problems. The recording may come a few days delayed.

At the moment there is nothing really new from the university, so the plans for the remaining lectures and the exam are as before, but things may change quickly. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the exam period starts early this year, and in order to avoid too much interference with exam preparations, I have decided to stop lecturing on new material a bit earlier than I normally would. This means that we shall stop after section 9.2, which, with a little bit of luck, will mean Thursday, November 12th. The rest of the lectures will be spent on review and problem solving.

The physical lecture on Wednesday, November 4, is unfortunately cancelled, but I have made notes and podcasts covering the material. Go to the "From the lectures"-pages to find them.

The lectures in STK-MAT3710/4710 will continue in the same format as before.

There has been a little back and forth about the exams this semester due to the covid-19 situation, but it now seems that the Faculty will allow ordinary school exams in small courses like STK-MAT3710/4710 where infection control is easy to maintain. Students who can not take the ordinary exam due to illness, quarantine, or special circumstances will be allowed to take the exam at an another time and perhaps in a different form (oral exam).

If you are not comfortable with this solution, you should let me know as soon as possible and at latest Thursday, October 29th.

I have uploaded a note on Fourier inversion that gives some informal background for the material in subsection 6.1.1. I shall cover it in class next Wednesday (October 14th).

If you follow the lectures of a course you are not signed up for, please register here

(This in order to be able to track potential corona infection).

If nothing happens in the meantime, the first lecture will go as planned in room 107, NHA. Due to corona restrictions, the room only seats 19 persons and there are at the moment 21 students signed up for the course, but I don't think that will be a problem. The lecture will be taped and posted on the webpage immediately after it is completed (granted, of course, that the system is working, which it wasn't when I tried it this morning). If something goes wrong, we have a recording (in Norwegian) of the corresponding lecture from last year.

I have made padlet where you may ask questions about the course anonymously: https://uio.padlet.org/lindstro/STKMAT3710

The lectures will be in Norwegian unless international students (exchange students/master students) require them to be in English. If you are an international student who would like to require the course in English, send an email to lindstro@math.uio.no (I will also try to remember to ask at the start of the first lecture!)

I have now filled out the schedule and put in a few links on the semester page. As the covid-19 situation is at present, it will be possible to follow the lectures physically, but they will also be recorded and put online immediately after they are finished (they should appear automatically in the schedule). The lecture room is quite small and there may not be enough space for everybody to attend, but if the turn-out is as last year, we'll be fine.

Due to the Corona situation, the plans for the fall are quite tentative, but I aim to do as much campus teaching as possible. The lectures will, however, also be taped and made available online. The lecture room seats 19 students under Corona restrictions, which is about borderline for the course. It may be necessary to put restrictions on who can attend each lecture, but I'll return to that if it becomes necessary.

Looking forward to seeing you in the fall!
